Savoring Authentic Mexican Flavors at Del Sur Cantina

Mexican foods, a combination of traditional and modern cooking knowledge, has gained popularity worldwide for its rich flavor.  I am sure you have had thousands of people making great recommendations on Mexican dishes.

The good news is you do not have to go all the way to Mexico to satisfy your taste buds. If you are in San Diego, you can visit Del Sur Cantina for healthy and mouth-watering portions of the most decadent Mexican flavors. These are some of the foods that you can expect at the restaurant.

a) Carne Asada

This is the restaurant’s signature meal. It is popular because, besides its tasteful nature, the portion served is worth the value of your money. This meal is prepared by marinating flank or skirt steak with a combination of delicious flavors before grilling it. This fine steak can be eaten without a side dish or on a taco when ready.

b) Tacos

I am sure you have heard of Tacos, especially in Mexican movies. Tacos are easy to make, and thus are considered an authentic street food in Mexico. Ideally, a taco consists of a shell made from wheat or corn and different fillings. Common taco fillings combine grilled or ground meat layered with vegetables. The restaurant’s top secret when making the best tacos is never limiting their imagination regarding the fillings.

c) Burritos

Unlike a taco, a burrito’s flour shell is sealed in a cylindrical shape. Burritos are also stuffed with different ingredients, which are often in a stew form. The restaurant’s most common stews used as burrito fillings are fried beans, meat, or cheese.

d) Barbacoa

Slow-cooking meats is a technique embraced when preparing Mexican meals. Ideally, this method is meant to lock in flavor, ensuring the end product is tender well-cooked, and juicy. This improves the taste significantly. Besides the slow-cooking method, the meat used in the preparation of barbacoa is also marinated using flavored spices and lime juice. Cooking it longer affects the meal’s taste significantly. It also ensures it’s juicy, tender, and well-cooked. It is essential to note that Del Sur Cantina does not make its barbacoa from all meat cuts. This cooking procedure requires selective meat cuts as not all are appropriate for it.

e) Tamales

Flour dough is a common ingredient in Mexican meals. However, a tamale’s dough is done differently as it incorporates steamed corn or banana leaves. This dough is used as a wrap, which is filled with different ingredients ranging from pork, chicken, potatoes, carrots, and peppers to cheeses and olives.

f) Pork Chile Verde

The restaurant prepares this meal by slowly cooking tender pork cuts for extended periods, usually at least four hours. Normally, these chunks are cooked in a green chile sauce. The best accompaniment for this meal is rice or tortillas.

g) Chile en Nogada

At this point, you are familiar with the typical fillings and wrap Mexican cuisine. But did you know you can also stuff pepper with various ingredients? Chile en nogada is prepared by stuffing a certain type of pepper known as poblano with a significant amount of edible ingredients. The fillings used range from meats, spices, or vegetables, depending on a client’s liking.
